Content Marketing In 2022 | Why Just Publishing Your Post Is NOT Enough?

Fantastic, you have created a blog! You did the research, wrote the article, you might have even gotten some good quotes and statistics sprinkled into your content. But what you haven’t got is a lot of readers.

Unfortunately, a blog isn’t going to pick up on traffic unless you prime traffic to happen. But, isn’t your great content enough? It can be, but even the most read and well-loved blogs out there do a little pruning to keep traffic coming in.

Quick Checklist

Before we dive too far in, let’s cover a couple of basics. If you can check these off, you’re well on your way to having a successful blog (and probably good traffic)

  1. Your content is niche – a blog that dives into too many places at once can be confusing. Someone who is looking for SEO wants to read content about SEO on a marketing blog, not a home decor or cooking blog.
  2. You’ve given yourself time – If you’re tracking traffic, just know that it takes time. It takes a few weeks to get actual numbers on your articles.
  3. Your blog is interesting. Yes, you need to be niche, but that doesn’t mean you can’t cover related topics. You may find that adding a variety (but still related topics), can maximize your blog audience even more.

Your blog is an extension of your brand. So you may find that working on increasing your brand awareness helps you drive traffic. Meaning get yourself out there and get people talking about, tagging, and sharing your content!

Let’s see some things you can do to increase your brand awareness, build up your name in your niche, and ultimately grow your blog’s audience.

Promote Your Content

Okay, if this isn’t obvious it should be. Think about it, even the top-notch brand’s of today use advertisements to promote their brand and new products.

Fortunately, there are a variety of ways to promote your content, that are free! Though you can always pay to boost content on social media (for a fairly cheap price too).

Promote your content

Ways To Promote

As soon as you publish your content you need to instill a few ground rules or a checklist for yourself. Consistency is key here. Some of the easiest things include…

  1. Share on your social sites. You can easily promote new content on your social platforms and drive traffic. Create an intriguing and catchy phrase to get people to share, click, like, and of course read it!
  2. Share on forums. You may be able to answer a question and link to your blog. Be careful though some sites are strict when it comes to promotional content, so you’ll have to make sure you’re not being too self-serving and actually contributing insightful information.
  3. Try to get it syndicated. You can look for other blogs that republish content. Typically, these blogs have a ton of traffic, meaning you have the potential to really be seen.
  4. Schedule it to be shared again at a later date(s). This isn’t a one and done type of thing. Getting exposure means creating situations that cause you to be seen. So go ahead and add your new content to your social media calendar a few times.
  5. Use your existing channels. Share new blog content in your newsletters, to your email lists, to your friends, etc. People won’t know it exists unless you put it out there to be seen.
  6. Learn from experts. Check out some great content marketing advice from top experts.

Work On Your SEO

Search Engine Optimization is a great way for you to focus on your niche and build content that truly suits you. If you are creating content around certain keywords, you’ll likely be able to expand your reach in that area and become a known name in that specific industry.

search engine optimization

This one does take a lot of time, but it’s well worth it. SEO factors in many things, load speeds, image optimization, quality of content, use of headers, etc. If you work on improving your overall usability, and quality of content, and creating unique niche content, you can rank higher on searches.

Thus, increasing the chances of being seen, and ultimately being able to grow your blog’s audience.

Some quick SEO tips

  1. Check for broken links. Fix what is broken, if your website is easy to crawl, search engines will have an easier time finding you. Not to mention users get annoyed if you lead them to a dead end.
  2. Your formatting is concise. Some pages of your blog may be special or have a unique touch. But, generally speaking, people are looking for an easy to read and navigate a page. They want to know what to expect.
  3. Easy navigation. To build on the point above, site navigation is essential. It helps your SEO and readers!

Ask for subscribers

You may have to ask to get. Lucky for you, the internet is full of wonderful tools to help you automate this, so you don’t have to ask each person who you talk to individually (unless you want to).

Another thing that plays in your favor is if someone has landed on your blog, they are likely there to learn about something in your niche. Meaning, there is a good chance you can get that same person back to your blog if you ask them to subscribe.

We’ve all see the exit offer appear as we inch towards the edge of a page, or the pop up that flashes after you’ve been reading for a few seconds. These are your chance to reel people in and have them subscribe.

Here are a few ways you can ask for a subscriber

  1. Add a CTA at the end of your blogs. If they loved it, they might subscribe to stay up to date on all your new content.
  2. Ask current subscribers to refer a friend to subscribe. You can offer something in return… like an exclusive ebook or webinar seat. By using a referral strategy you can expand your audience while keeping past readers interested.
  3. Use your social platforms to see who is interested in your content. You can retarget them with the intention of getting them to refer or visit your blog again.

Networking and guest posting

Working with other blogger and marketers is a great way to build your audience. You see, if you have something of value to offer their readers, you likely have more information those people would want to see.

When you collaborate with another brand you will be introduced. Meaning you have an opportunity to earn a backlink or a shoutout of some sort. This allows their audience to further investigate you. And chances are if they are interested in what you do or have to say during their first point of contact with you, they will likely be curious to find out more.

Therefore, they could land right on your blog!

Easy networking ideas

  1. Guest blogging. If you work on building your relationships you may be able to snag a few guest posts. These are great ways for you to build your audience. Why? Well, readers on the blog you have contributed to will see your author bio and might be interested in reading more things you have written. Meaning they might go to your site.
  2. Contribute to niche roundups. Find a niche, and see if they are doing any roundups. You might be able to offer good advice and get a backlink out of it!
  3. Hang out online. You might find a few avenues to add in a comment or idea. For example, a marketing blogger might find answering and contributing ideas on things like Growthhackers.com or Quora worth their while. Often times, this can lead you to an unexpected collaboration, allowing you to have a new channel to increase your audience.
  4. Look around your favorite blogs. They might offer guest posting opportunities.

Revamp existing content

Things change and become outdated, your perspective and knowledge change and grow too.

This is why it’s important to update your existing content. You may be able to add more in-depth content and expand on what you have.

This can be good for helping your SEO too. So not only will your content stay relevant, but it might be able to rank even higher on search engines. Therefore you might be able to get seen more easily.

You never know who you might attract by just doing a quick update on a blog.

Tips for revamping content

  1. Work on low-hanging fruit. You may have a couple articles that don’t get much traffic but that you know you can rank higher for. Update these guys and get that traffic flowing.
  2. Or get rid of the duds. Your blog may have taken a turn down a different content path. Either get rid of old content that no longer matches your theme, or spins it so it does.
  3. Do a blog audit. Set a goal to go through all your articles and their stats. You may do a big clean up on a yearly or bi-yearly basis to help keep your content fresh and up to date with trends.

As you can see there are plenty of ways to grow your blog’s audience. And if your blog is attached to your business website, that could translate to a larger customer base as well.

On top of these solutions, there are always paid options like ads and running paid campaigns like an influencer or referral marketing program. The point is, you have a ton of ways to grow your audience, you just have to put in a little elbow grease and time.

How To Get Backlinks As A Content Marketers And Content Authors 2022

If you’re a newbie content marketer just starting out with your blog, the first thing you’ll need to do is work on developing a good strategy to get it traffic. There are a plethora of strategies you’ll need to use, but in this article, we’ll discuss a strategy for you to get high-quality backlinks, which is one of the most important things you’ll need to get traffic.

In this article, I will discuss and introduce some of the best strategies that you can implement in 2019 to get high-quality backlinks for your blog. First of all, let’s talk about the basics of backlinks and why they are important for your content marketing!

Why Backlinks Are So Important For Your Content Marketing Strategy?

First of all, the two most important rules in Content Marketing is having high-quality content and high-quality backlinks. Backlinks can dramatically help you to improve your SEO rankings and increase your blog traffic. However, you need good quality backlinks. For example, if you own a digital marketing blog and acquire a backlink from a high authority digital marketing site or agency, this would be considered as valuable and relevant. However, if you got a backlink from a website that sells Jewelry, it would most likely not be relevant and can negatively impact your ranking.

There’s even more to it, but as a general rule of thumb, you need relevant backlinks from relevant sites. Old strategies like buying hundreds of backlinks or purchasing links from PBNs do not work anymore and can negatively impact your website. Google will penalize your website for this. Google doesn’t want you to spam the Web and you’ll need to get linked from high authority websites in a relevant article in a natural way. If you want your backlink building to be successful, you’ll need to build high-quality backlinks.

Strategies for Getting High-Quality Backlinks

  1. Get Backlinks from Broken Links

This strategy is a great way to get new backlinks. I really like this method because it works perfectly to create unidirectional backlinks. The technique involves searching websites you’d like to get a backlink on for broken links on their existing articles. When you find one, you simply contact the website owner to report the broken link and at the same time, you recommend your page as a good replacement.

Since you did the website owner a favor by reporting the broken link, the chances of getting that new replacement link are high. To use the broken link method, search your niche for relevant resource pages. Find them using these Google searches:

  • Your keyword + links
  • Your keywords + resources
  • Keywords in URL: links
  1. Getting Backlinks from Guest Posts

Guest blogging is the most effective ways to reach out to new audiences and acquire high-quality backlinks. With guest blogging, you not only get backlinks from authority sites, but you can also establish a brand for yourself. By publishing your articles on other popular sites, you can keep your content ahead of new readers and gain visibility.

Sometimes it’s not just a referral back, it’s about boosting your reputation on the Internet or your Social Media followers.

Guest blog posts help to build relationships and expand your audience. If you have doubts about guest blogging, keep in mind that even Google accepts guest contributors on their Google Analytics blog.

You can use various Google search queries to find out blogs who accept guest posts:

  • your keyword + guest-posts
  • your keyword + inurl:write-for-us
  • your keyword + become a contributor
  • your keyword + inurl:guest-post-guidelines
  • your keyword + submit an article
  • your keyword + bloggers wanted
  • your keyword + contribute
  • your keyword + want to write for
  • your keyword + guest post by
  • your keyword + become an author
  1. Publish Detailed and Well-Researched Articles on Your Blog

Of course, this is a must. You need to have high-quality content on your blog. Simply having detailed and well-researched articles/blog posts published on your blog will help you naturally acquire more backlinks. According to backlinko, long articles with 1890 words typically ranked the highest on search engines and get the best backlinks.

To improve the accuracy and trustworthiness of your article, you can conduct surveys, use your business data, create case studies and other content based on original searches that are not available on any other sites. When you publish statistics and original data, other websites will likely want to link themselves with your new information.

  1. Use Infographics to Get Backlinks

You don’t have to only publish long, detailed articles with mostly text to get high-quality backlinks. According to Neil Patel, content that is rich with text, infographics, and videos attract 5x more links.

In fact, infographics can attract influencers as well. So, I would highly recommend that you also add visual content, such as infographics or videos, on your blog, along with your detailed and well-researched articles. Adding infographics to your posts will create outstanding content that is engaging for your readers.

  1. Use Link-able to Start Acquiring Relevant and Diverse Backlinks

Link-able is a great platform for Content Marketers that focuses on building high-quality backlinks by reputable journalists and bloggers. Not all Content Marketers are accepted into Link-able as you need really high-quality content.

How Does Link-able work?

For Content Marketers, you can simply apply to join Link-able here. But once again – remember you will need to have a website or blog with exceptional quality content.

Once you’ve applied and are accepted, Link-able will be the most powerful tool in your Content Marketing tool kit to help you acquire backlinks. It does so by connecting you with relevant Content Authors (bloggers, journalists, freelance writers, etc) who can discover your content and potentially link to you.

You get connected by posting a project on the Link-able platform for each specific page you’d like to build links to. For example, if you have a page about “making a website”, you can simply post a project about this page.

Content Authors on the Link-able platform looking to link to similar content will then see your project and apply to it if they’re interested. They’ll send you a brief application, stating where they can build your backlink and how they plan to do so. This will give you a good idea of how they plan to mention your content and what domain you’ll get your backlink on. They’ll also tell you how much they charge for attempting to build your backlink. There’s no guarantee that the Content Authors will be able to build you the actual link, but Link-able terms state that the authors must be successful in order for them to be paid for their work. So this ensures that they try their best. You can review all the details of each application you receive and decide whether to accept or decline it.

This makes link building very effective and easy for you as a Content Marketer. Instead of spending countless hours outreaching and attempting to perform many of the other link building strategies I mentioned above, you can let the Content Authors on Link-able do this for you.

Furthermore, Link-able itself guarantees high-quality links and they carefully monitor all the Content Authors on their platform. They’ll review their work and ensure that all Content Authors adhere to their very strict link building rules and that they only use 100% white hat link building techniques.

Link-able Cons

  • It’s hard to get your website or blog approved. They only accept websites/blogs with extremely high-quality content (which they describe as 10X content).

Infographics are liked and shared on social media 3x more than other any other type of content. Infographic is 30 times more likely to be read than a text article. Check out the article below to read more on creating infographics from scratch:

How to Create Content That Actually Drives Links

When it comes to content marketing, it’s no secret that a well-balanced mix of owned, paid and earned media is critical to success. To truly create a comprehensive plan, one that effectively captures customers, marketers must consider that the lines between each of these three types of media has blurred–one influencing the other and vice versa. And therefore, the solid approach will no longer cut it. Instead, you must choreograph the successful interplay of these three types of media.

According to the Content Marketing Institute, more than 80% of both B2B and B2C marketers said they create and then host content on their own assets–owned media. Additionally, 92% of B2C marketers and 80% of B2B marketers said they used at least one paid advertising method to promote and/or distribute content. Unlike owned and paid, earned media can’t be fully controlled from the comfort of a corporate armchair, making this the most difficult of the three-part mixed-marketing plan to influence and acquire.

But it’s impact cannot be ignored. Webbed Feed reported that 92% of consumers say they trust earned media, while only half trust paid ads. Earned media drives 4 times the brand lift of paid media and 51% of millennials are more likely to be influenced by earned media, according to BazaarVoice. And Conductor reported that lead generation driven by earned media out-performs lead generation driven by paid media by a delta of 10-15%. Earned media is a veritable unicorn–magical, powerful and beautiful.

This type of media is the most influential of the trio. In fact, it is this modern equivalent of classic word of mouth that will differentiate the content marketing standard from the stellar in the years to come.

Typically, earned media is sparked from supremely effective uses of paid and owned media. From there, people share, tweet, comment and, in the best cases, link to your content in their own posts. The challenge: You can’t force people (at least not in good conscience) to share or link to your content. What’s more, you can’t predict with 100% certainty whether or not your efforts will result in links. You can, however, be smarter about the content you produce.

With a bit of strategic research, some carefully penned content, and a few tweaks to both readability and format, you can increase the likelihood that you will earn links.

1. Don’t reinvent the wheel

How Social Media Can Project Your Business Reputation

There’s no shortage of content out there. Social media automation company Buffer admitted to losing 50 percent of their viewership due to what’s being called the Content Crush. Buffer’s content curators argue that this content crush–or excessive amount of available content–makes it even harder to create a splash in the Internet ocean.

To overcome this, it’s more imperative than ever for marketers to use the insights from content that’s already driving traffic as a springboard for their own original articles. Ensure that your content doesn’t become yet another article that doesn’t yield results by doing your homework. Take a look at what’s already catching reader attention through the use of one of the many online tools. Just pick a keyword, and start searching.

  • Google Search: A simple Google search will show you the results Google (and therefore readers) deem most useful. Review these results, taking note of style and format. Then, think of ways you can improve upon it or put a fresh spin that you don’t already see represented in what you find.
  • Buzzsumo: Buzzsumo is a content intelligence tool. While this tool may not prove useful to laypeople, to businesses seeking to capture attention with content, it provides invaluable information necessary for strategic planning. To use the content intelligence tool, simply enter any topic or domain, such as customer service techniques or forbes.com to return a list of high-performing articles. You can filter by date, language, content type and more. The list of results also includes the total number of shares broken down by social network.
  • Ahrefs: Ahrefs.com monitors keywords, backlinks and brand mentions through the use of a proprietary web crawler. Take the content you’ve gathered from google search and Buzzsumo, and use Ahrefs backlink checker to see who’s linking to it. Keep that in mind when youĂ•re writing, because you can frame your content specifically for a particular website or audience.

Ahrefs also offers a Content Explorer, similar to the one offered by BuzzSumo, allowing you to identify the most shared content relevant to your business. Also explore here some high quality backlinks methods which can help you get more organic traffic.

2. Think about searchers queries

If you want other businesses to link to your article, you need to think like content marketers –their content marketers. What are they going to search when researching support for their own articles? To create reliable and professional articles, these writers will likely look for statistics and data to support their arguments. Increase the probability that they land on your article by pairing the keyword with the words they might include in an attempt to narrow their search results. Try words similar to:

Attention : Hootsuite Review: Top Reasons to Buy Hootsuite(Pros & Cons)

  • Facts
  • Information
  • Data
  • Statistics
  • Benchmarks
  • Best Practices

When you couple the above with your keyword, and you’ve significantly increased your link intent. You increase the likelihood that content developers will find and use your article to support the arguments they’re making in their own content.

3. Crown your content with a killer headline

According to Copyblogger, 8 out of 10 people will read headline copy, but only 2 out of 10 will read the remainder of the text. You have literally a couple of seconds to snag a scanner’s attention. “The Father of Advertising”, David Ogilvy urged advertisers to remember the importance of the headline, famously saying, On the average, five times as many people read the headline as read the body copy. When you have written your headline, you have spent eighty cents out of your dollar.

Do your headlines need some TLC? Making your headlines engaging isn’t quite as hard as you may think. While you’ll still need to flex some creative muscle to pen a headline that shines, following some basic rules can make your headline immediately more appealing:

  • Include a number or other specific data (i.e. Quick Ways to Increase Conversions by 50%)
  • Make it a list title (i.e. The 7 Secrets to Busting Belly Fat)
  • Stick to odd numbers Ă‘oddly enough, according to the Content Marketing Institute, readers tend to believe them more
  • Use a colon or hyphen in the headline
  • Make the headline a question to get readers thinkingĂ‘and clicking
  • Include rationale or a reason why the reader should go deeper
  • Write with a sense of urgency

4. Provide actionable raw data

Many searchers take to the web seeking a specific fact or figure. How about giving them what they want? People looking for a statistics absolutely hate slogging through an entire article to get it. Providing tables or charts can help readers easily access and digest information, endearing them to your simple and easy style.

5. Write with the web in mind

This may go without saying, but articles that drive links are typically engaging, scannable and easy to digest. Online readers aren’t really reading they’re scanning. Serve up content in bite-sized chunks, using bulleted lists and subheads to break it up. Content that’s easy to absorb is easy to share. And be sure to pay attention to readability. While flowery language reminiscent of a writer from the Romantic era may sound fancy and be pleasing to the ear, it’s going to turn-off your average reader. Twenty-one percent of adults read at a fifth grade level, so your lofty sounding prose, rich in jargon, will likely find a small audience.

6. Obtain powerful quotes

Including quotes from experts and/or industry influencers is one of the most effective ways to boost the credibility of your content. Again, it’s important that the quotes are relevant to the source content, are accurate and add value to the reader. This is also a great way to generate more links to your site: if you include a link to your expert’s site from your content, they may return the favor.

7. DonÕt forget the design

Impressing a modern Internet user is far more difficult than it was back when the whole idea was shiny and new. Today, web searchers donÕt just want information. They want information that’s dressed up and topped with a bow. A poorly designed website can hurt your credibility just as much as a website containing weak copy. By creating an attractive website to frame your content, you can capture the discriminating web searcher and make yourself–and your content–seem legitimate and worthy of attention.

Bonus: Make it worth their while

There’s a growing trend among content providers, offering a meaningful incentives or bonus content to readers who finish an entire article. This typically requires the reader to enter their email address or share the content on their social media networks before gaining access. People like positive reinforcement, so getting something for actually attending to an entire article–a feat in these frenetic times–can provide the little extra motivation that readers need to both finish and share your articles.

What other tips and strategies do you use for creating high-performing content?
